FSSAI introduces the Food Safety Mitra Scheme

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on October 11, 2019, in order to improve ease of doing business introduces a new scheme called the Food Safety Mitra (FSM) Scheme to engage motivated individuals with the food safety ecosystem at ground level. The Food Safety Mitra is a certified individual professional who will assist compliances related to FSS Act, Rules and Regulations with three avatars like Digital mitra, Trainer mitra and Hygiene mitra depending upon their respective roles and responsibilities. This Scheme will open new opportunities in the areas of online licensing and registration of food businesses, food safety training and hygiene auditing. This Scheme would mainly focus on small and medium scale food businesses.

The detailed brochure for the Scheme containing the structure and fees etc. is attached and are available at the online portal i.e. https://fssai.gov.in/mitra/ and the registrations on the same for digital mitra has been started.

All the States and Union Territories (UT) are requested to give publicity about the Scheme initiated by FSSAI to promote enrolment of motivated individuals on the said portal. The assistance of the Network of Professionals of Food and Nutrition in India (NetPro.Fan) may also be taken. FSSAI will provide training and assessment for the said Scheme to the individuals through its Regional Offices so that the scheme is implemented in an effective manner while promoting its awareness amongst the public.
